Our School

Today’s Learners….Tomorrow’s Leaders
Macquarie Anglican Grammar School is a rapidly growing school which provides a high quality education to students K-12. Situated in the thriving regional centre of Dubbo, Macquarie has developed an enviable reputation for its standards and achievements, emphasising on academic excellence, pastoral care, co-curricular engagement and growth in faith and values.

Our Vision

The Macquarie 2020 Strategic Plan is a bold and ambitious vision of our preferred future for the school, seeking to capture the hopes and dreams of the school community and the essence of what our School stands for and seeks to become.

The Strategic Vision is based upon five “foundation” priorities that clearly articulate “who we are” and the commitment we make to continuously improving the quality of the educational experience we offer to our students.

The foundation educational priorities
Establishing a culture of excellence
Providing quality care for each student
Building a strong and vibrant community
Developing young people of outstanding character
Instilling a firm foundation of Christian faith and values

In addition to these educational foundation priorities there are also financial imperatives. In this regard there will also be two strategic and foundational financial priorities;
Ensuring long term financial viability
Ensuring effective leadership, management and governance

The Macquarie 2020 Strategic Vision aims to provide a platform to build a long and proud future for our School by ensuring that we have in place the goals and strategies to encourage each student to reach for and achieve their potential, so that upon leaving our School they are outstanding young men and women of character; ready and willing to take their place in the world as active, compassionate and responsible citizens.

Curriculum

Macquarie’s curriculum and teaching programs are founded upon meeting the social, emotional, physical and academic needs of the individual child.

Macquarie has a highly skilled and dedicated and team of classroom and specialist teachers, who work with students in classes to provide a high quality, engaging learning experience for them. With the early acquisition of literacy and numeracy skills as a foundational platform for the curriculum, we organise the curriculum in the following six Key Learning Areas, as set down by the NSW Board of Studies;
English
Mathematics
Human Society and Its Environment
Science and Technology
Creative and Practical and Performing Arts
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

In the Junior school (K-6) this year we have implemented an innovative approach to reinforce our literacy and numeracy emphasis with the establishment of a “flexible progression” model, whereby students are in ability groups, rather than the traditional “age based” groups for literacy and numeracy each day. Students are then able to progress as they demonstrate completion the educational outcomes for each group. A regular testing program seeks to ensure that student progress is closely monitored within the system.

Macquarie’s Teaching and Learning Support staff assist with those who require further assistance in developing their literacy and numeracy skills. Likewise, individual staff modify and enrich teaching and learning programs to facilitate independent learning.

Macquarie also has a strong commitment to Gifted and Talented education and provides several different programs for students identified as Gifted and Talented.

Co Curricular

Education is more than just an “academic pursuit”.  At Macquarie, we believe that a quality education should provide a rich tapestry of experiences that maximizes each student’s potential and enhances their enjoyment of school.  To that end, our co-curricular program seeks to develop and extend students in ways that are not possible in the “academic curriculum”.
The Macquarie co-curricular program provides opportunities for teachers, parents and students to work co-operatively in an enjoyable context that is very different to the normal classroom; thus providing an important means of building relationships and providing pastoral care.
Whether it is involvement in a Sporting Team, the Performing Arts, or a Community Service Event, the co-curricular program adds an exciting and challenging depth and breadth to the total educational experience being offered by the school.

Our Facilities

Macquarie Anglican Grammar School is situated on a spacious 24 acre site in Dubbo. Our School serves the families of the central western region. Macquarie is well equipped with modern architecturally designed buildings  which give students access to the latest technologies. An extensive and ambitious building program will see further quality facilities added over the next several years.
