Marist Sisters' College Woolwich

Welcome

Welcome to Marist Sisters’ College Woolwich (MSCW), a thriving educational and faith community situated in beautiful leafy grounds overlooking the Lane Cove River, just a few kilometres from the heart of Sydney.

Marist Sisters’ College is an outstanding all-girls’ secondary college informed by the Marist Sisters’ tradition, with facilities that include heritage-listed original buildings, a hall and chapel, as well as modern facilities that cater for the learning needs of contemporary students.

Graduates of Marist Sisters’ College are highly regarded for their excellent academic performance, energetic participation in the arts, public speaking and a range of sports to representative level; capacity to build positive networks; and their community outreach ventures, both in Australia and overseas.

Why Choose our College?

Marist Sisters’ College Woolwich is a unique place for girls to learn, explore, discover and grow. Infused with the Marist spirit, our school’s strong family atmosphere nurtures students individual needs so they become critical thinkers, capable networkers, independent learners and team players.

As a girls’ only school, our students develop and refine themselves by participating in STEM, sport, the arts and academia through the Newman Selective Gifted Education Program. Effective teaching and wellbeing programs equip our young women to meet the challenges of further study, professional workplaces and global responsibility.

Our Vision - Developing a Compass for Life

We are a community inspired by our recently refreshed vision: ‘Developing a Compass for Life‘ for every girl. At the heart of this vision are four key dimensions, which engage our energies:
- Formation of positive ‘sisterly’ relationships, preparing girls to thrive in any community,
- Identification of student ‘gifts’ which are explored, refined and applied,
- Leadership experiences and opportunities, which ‘empower’ young women to be generous and proactive,
- Fostering ‘courage’ and tenacity in ethical discernment built on justice.

By nurturing curiosity and imagination, each girl develops her Marist Compass allowing her to be well equipped, to successfully navigate life and make a valuable contribution to a better community and world.

Learning and Achievement

The foundation of learning at our school is through a pedagogy of differentiated teaching. We modify teaching, learning activities and assessment to meet students at their point of learning need, be that beyond the classroom curriculum or at an emerging skill level.

Our teachers know the strengths of each student and areas needing improvement and design effective teaching and learning strategies including critical and creative thinking, problem-solving and the use of technology. It is through these differentiated approaches that we inspire our students and fuel their motivation to endeavour, evolve and exceed in their learning.

Throughout our community of Sydney Catholic schools, we have shown high performance of our students in measures such as NAPLAN and the HSC.

Co-Curricular Activities

SPORT:
Throughout the year, all Year 7–10 students participate in regular Thursday sport with many sporting options to chose from and the opportunity to compete against other schools in our region.
We also run a sailing program as an extracurricular sport, through our boat shed, located on the Lane Cove River.

ACADEMIC:
Our students participate in a number of competitions including: Debating, Public Speaking, Da Vinci decathlon, Chemistry Titration Competition, and Investigating Mathematics.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM:
Our unique TDP program meets the needs of students with a passion for the performing arts. All students participate in an annual Showcase evening, and many students in TDP also undertake private music tuition during the school day.

MUSICALS AND DRAMA:
The college has a long tradition of musical productions. Every second year, the college produces a whole school musical or large scaled drama production. Neighbouring colleges such as St Joseph’s Hunters Hill, St Ignatius’ College Riverview, Holy Cross College Ryde and Marist College Eastwood are also invited to partake in these large scale productions.
