The Alesco Learning Centre Northern Rivers, offers students who have disengaged from mainstream school settings an opportunity to re-engage with a formal education curriculum in a dynamic and innovative teaching and learning environment.
The learning environment at Alesco is designed to encourage previously disengaged learners to complete their school certificate whilst also instilling values like personal respect both for themselves and others. Moreover, at Alesco we try to instil an understanding of consequences for poor choices associated with behaviours both individually and in the broader social or public contexts. Attention is also focused on avoidance of responsibilities, particularly where the students’ own learning is concerned. Ultimately Alesco’s objective is to enable its students to achieve success in learning and to develop as people, so enabling them to re-engage in mainstream school environments to complete their secondary school years, or to move into the workforce or other training opportunities.

ALESCO is all about offering students a wide range of interesting and engaging creative, and community building projects.
Each year Alesco is involved with a community arts event, with 2008 and 2009 spent assisting with the Lismore Lantern parade.
Each year students take part in a school camp which takes advantage of the regions natural beauty by imersing students in team building activities in a spectacular natural bushland setting. Each year the camps are tailored to the students involved, providing skills and programs relevent to that years group.
Sports are chosen by students and rotated regularly to maintain interest. Sports include
soccer, touch football, athletics, gym, swimming and surfing.
In 2008 students participated in a cultural arts program where local indigionus artist "Burri," taught them about traditional painting methods. These techniques were then used to create a 10 metre long mural on the Lismore levy wall.
These are just a few examples of the dynamic curriculum students will be exposed to whilst attending Alesco. |

"They form strong relationships with each other and teachers and this keeps them engaged and enthusiastic."
"It works beacause they all work together to reach a common goal which is their School Certificate."
