About Warrah School

Warrah School, founded in 1969, is the only Steiner Special School in Sydney. As a registered Special School, Warrah offers a high quality, individualised education for students with intellectual disabilities, from Kindergarten to Year 12, based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. Warrah believes that each individual has the right to reach their full potential through receiving a balanced, holistic education regardless of disability. Accordingly, the philosophy of Warrah is that every student should have the opportunity to acquire knowledge, appreciation, and skills in the arts, humanities, sciences, history and world culture, the highest possible level of literacy and numeracy, and that every student should be educated in life skills to promote independence and self esteem.

Curriculum and Programs

The Curriculum adapts the Steiner Curriculum for mainstream children and incorporates Steiner's indications for Curative Education. The subjects are age appropriate, striving for new levels of socialisation and maturity. Subjects are selected on the basis of the ability levels of individual students and classes, and the arts are utilised creatively to embrace each pupil.
This creative experiential presentation is the key learning tool used at Warrah to create an active artistic learning environment which educates the whole child, transforming concepts to understanding through story and movement, awakening fingertips and dexterity in modeling and crafts, experiencing the joy of music and colour and observing and exploring the rhythms and wonder of the natural world.

Individual Education Plans

All students at Warrah School have an Individual Education Plan which is developed collaboratively by the Class teacher, parents, therapists and any other relevant specialists. The IEP is an annual plan which establishes educational priorities and goals for each student for the comming year. IEP's are reviewed each Term and teachers report regularly to parents on how their child is progressing.

Integration

Students at Warrah can participate in Integration sessions at a nearby Steiner School. In this program, Warrah students are joining classes with their mainstream peers for individually selected subjects and activities as appropriate to their Individual Education Plan goals.
