Canterbury Girls High School was established in 1890 and has a fine record in academic, cultural, social and sporting excellence. The school has a long history of outstanding Value added HSC and SC results. There is also a strong Performing Arts program. Leadership opportunities are developed from early in the junior years and civic participation is a strong component of the activities offered at the school. |

The school holds two significant formal awards ceremonies in the school year to recognise and encourage excellence. Academic achievement and school and community citizenship are recognised through these awards. There is also a Recognition Scheme which enables students to have their progress and participation acknowledged each year.
Students are provided with guidance, nurturing and mentoring. There is a Student Counsellor, Chinese and Korean Community Liaison officers at the school and a supportive network of teachers and staff.
The school also has a fully staffed Learning Centre for Senior Students.

Canterbury Girls High School has a wide variety of Extra Curricular activities to develop students’ physical and intellectual abilities, realise potential and teach leadership.
These include:
• Arts: Bands- Jazz, Rock, Concert, Choir, Dance Ensembles and Theatresports;
• Challenges: Debating competitions, Rostrum Youth Individual Speaking Competition, Mock United Nations Challenge, Students in Business, Premier’s Reading Challenge, Public Speaking, Tournament of the Minds and National Competitions in Mathematics, Science and English;
• Leadership and Society: Duke of Edinburgh Program, Environmental Ambassador Program, Green Action Group and a Social Justice Group;
• Sports: Knockout Sport – Basketball, Lawn Bowls, Oz Tag, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Touch Football, Hockey, Volleyball and Netball. |
