About the School

St Hilda’s is an Anglican Diocesan day and boarding school located in Southport on the Gold Coast. St Hilda’s offers schooling for girls from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12 with boarding available from Year 6. In the classrooms and on the sporting fields, every girl is encouraged to discover the enjoyment of learning with others.

The school aims to achieve outstanding academic results, pursue excellence and require involvement in a wide-ranging and adaptive curricula program, provide students with the diversity of experiences needed to develop as well-rounded individuals and foster creativity and participation in the Arts. It seeks to strengthen the international orientation of its associated educations programs, employ high quality, committed and innovative educational staff, provide excellent boarding facilities and to provide class sizes, facilities and an environment required to support an outstanding education.

The school grounds encompass approx 14 hectares with modern school facilities set amongst tall trees and beautifully landscaped gardens and courtyards.

There are extensive facilities at St Hilda’s School to cater for the needs of every girl as she proceeds through the school.

The girls are accommodated in classrooms designed to enhance experiential learning. There are specialist Art Rooms, Performance Space and Experiential Learning Rooms. All School classrooms have between 6 and 10 computers and all students have access to the five computer laboratories and a multi media laboratory. There are a number of specialist Music rooms and two large practice/teaching rooms and a large number of practice and individual tuition rooms. Teaching rooms have access to electronic keyboards with IT links.

All students spend their break times in the landscaped courtyards, in shaded courtyard areas or in the areas specified near the school administration areas. Seating is provided as is climbing equipment for the younger girls.

All students benefit from the extensive sporting facilities at the school. The school has a heated 50-metre pool and an unheated 25-metre pool, a large gymnasium complete with specialised gymnastic equipment to service the elite gymnastics program, tennis and basketball courts and a grass oval.

Boarding Facilities

The school provides excellent and very modern facilities for our boarders to take account of changes in lifestyle and community standards.
Boarding accommodation ranges from small groups to single accommodation. The boarding house is divided into three houses based on age groupings and girls in each house are provided with study facilities of their own as well as recreational facilities including pool tables and table tennis facilities. Each year level is in the care of a Resident Supervisor and Head of House who is responsible to the Director of Boarding.
In the final years of schooling, girls enjoy single rooms (Year 12) and twin share rooms (Year 11). Each room is wired to enable girls to have a computer and is connected to the library with its multimedia facilities and access to the Internet. A telephone will be provided in each room on request of the parents.
To prepare girls to lead autonomous lives after school, recreational facilities include a fully equipped kitchen which may be used by the girls at the weekends if they do not wish to go the dining room. Common rooms and reading rooms enable good interaction between students.
For the whole boarding house, a full program of activities operates out of school hours to provide a home away from home in which young women may grow in safety in a caring atmosphere, whilst they are encouraged and challenged to extend themselves academically, culturally and physically.
The School Health Centre operates to provide care for those who are sick. A Boarders' Council operates to allow girls to have input into the decision making process. The school employs two qualified chefs and the dining room with its daily menu provides first class meals with a wide range of choices including vegetarian.
