Entry Criterion

Glenallen School is located in an eastern suburban residential area, its buildings surrounded by native bush and gardens. Glenallen invites enrolment for students aged between 4.8 to 18 years, who have a physical disability and/or significant health impairment requiring paramedical support and caters for students with a wide range of intellectual abilities.
Current students have complex needs and often multiple disabilities. Types of disabilities experienced by the present students include Cerebral Palsy, Rett Syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, and for some the aetiology of the disability is unknown.

Curriculum

Glenallen offers a comprehensive developmental curriculum based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, the Glenallen Skills for Learning Curriculum and our 16+ Transition Curriculum incorporating the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). Our aim is to provide for the development of each student intellectually, socially, physically and emotionally. Individual programs are designed to promote student development in all these areas as well as maximising independence in functional activities of daily living. Each student is encouraged to be an active participant in their individual educational program.

Facilities

Specialist classes are conducted in purpose built areas including library, art, music, homecraft and science rooms. Swimming classes are conducted in the magnificent swimming pool complex. Sensory environments include a sensorimotor room and a newly constructed multisensory room.

Therapy

Students benefit from a therapy rich environment as the school employs 13 full time therapists including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and music therapy. A part time dance therapist also contributes to our DUKES program.

Transport

The Glenallen transport zone extends from Cheltenham in the south to Ringwood in the north and from Port Melbourne in the west to Warburton in the east. Students residing within the zone can access a free bus service between their home and the school. Each bus has an experienced driver and an on board supervisor to ensure student welfare and safety.

Medical needs

The school employs a full time registered nurse who attends to the complex medical needs of students. All rooms are equipped with intercom telephone and the nurse carries a mobile phone at all times to ensure that she is available in an emergency.
