About Good News

Good News Lutheran College is a co-educational Christian school from Prep to Year 12, offering a holistic education in the Lutheran tradition. The College was established in 1997 and has experienced extraordinary growth over the years with just over 1200 students and a staff of more than 150.

In 2020 the Good News Lutheran College achieved accreditation for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and in 2021 has applied for Middle Years Programme (MYP) accreditation.

Our Values

Good News Lutheran College aims to provide a Christ-centred education for all children who attend the College.
We aim to:
Provide each child with a thorough grounding in the Christian faith, and effectively to relate this instruction to the life of the child.
Provide a high standard of instruction in all key learning areas as required by the Department of School Education.
Encourage in each child a feeling of self-worth, and respect for others.
Encourage in each child a love of learning.
Foster the God-given gifts of each child.

Curriculum

The School follows curriculum guidelines set out by the Victorian Directorate of School Education, and guidelines used in other Lutheran Schools.
The school curriculum is based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards Framework (VELS) under the International Baccalaureate umbrella. Teachers are involved in curriculum development on a regular basis.
Support programs for disadvantaged students are a feature of Lutheran Schools and are provided when the need arises. Open–ended, investigative tasks cater for students of all abilities, especially talented students.

Pastoral Care and Support

Support of Students - Student's spiritual and emotional well-being are supported through a variety of Christ-centred programs.
From daily devotions to a scripture-based Behaviour Management Policy, Students are nurtured to grow with confidence and self belief.
Support of Families - Support of Students also extends to a support of their families.
Good News Lutheran College works together with parents/caregivers to help sustain the best environment at home to enable each Student to reach their full potential.
St Philips Lutheran Church, on the College site, provides an opportunity for fellowship for Students and families.
Prayer Groups - A prayer group meets on Tuesdays to pray for the Students, the staff and the School community. Everyone is welcome.

Buildings and Facilities

In late July 2022, the new Junior Years building is due to be completed which will house students from Years 1 through 4.
Construction is scheduled for August 2022 to commence on an Integrated Learning Centre. The centre will provide Kindergarten facilities to 3- and 4-year-old children as well as allied health rooms.
