Simonds Catholic College

Small school, big opportunites, in the heart of the city

Simonds Catholic College is a secondary school for boys (410 students) in the inner city of Melbourne. With its central Melbourne location and public transport accessibility, the College attracts applicants from a wide range of inner city and suburban areas.

Simonds is a unique school, now on one campus

Our commitment to small class sizes ensures each student receives the attention they need from their teacher in a safe and supportive learning environment, in which our boys are inspired and challenged to be all they can be.

Simonds provides students with an abundance of opportunities to represent the school in activities from Debating, Public Speaking, Chess, Performing and Visual Arts through to our numerous ACC sporting teams.

And our close proximity to the inner city means we are able to take advantage of the many excellent cultural and sporting facilities to support and enhance our students' learning. We are fortunate that many activities are only minutes away.

We get the best out of our boys!

Boys develop and learn differently from girls and our teachers teach in ways that boys learn best.

Our small size means we get to know our boys quickly and well. We work hard to inspire and support them to succeed beyond their expectations. With a proven record of success, we continue to achieve impressive VCE results.

As a member of the Associated Catholic Colleges Competition, a group of thirteen independent Catholic boys schools in Victoria, your son will have opportunities to participate in interschool sporting, cultural and leadership programs across a wide range of events and activities. His school days will be busy and, at times, challenging but also fun and rewarding. It is clear in their faces that our boys are happy to be here. Brotherhood is fostered and lifelong friendships develop.

Experts in teaching BOYS

We are specialists in teaching boys. Our outstanding teachers know how to reach and teach boys and help them succeed beyond anyone's expectations - even their own.

Reading Equals Power | REP program

Research shows the importance of wider reading in the development of crucial cognitive skills, expanding vocabulary and developing general knowledge. This is why we introduced the Reading Equals Power (REP) program. Our Year 7-9 students read novels of their choice during scheduled sessions and their efforts are celebrated through the presentation of awards for “most improved”, “most books read” and “most quiz points scored”. Our boys’ reading habits have changed dramatically. Reading really does give students power in the classroom and power in life.

Learning connected to Wellbeing

We know how important wellbeing is to learning. Evidence demonstrates the strong association between the development of social and emotional skills for wellbeing, health and safety, and the positive impact this has on students' learning outcomes.

Our school is a learning community that promotes student wellbeing, safety and positive relationships so that students can achieve success and reach their full potential.

We do this by:
1. Creating a safe, orderly and supportive environment that combines a focus on learning with a focus on wellbeing - without one, the other will not happen.
2. Building the capability of staff, students and the school community so that we are always improving.
3. Developing strong systems for early intervention and response, so that problems are identified early and dealt with appropriately.

We welcome all prospective families to visit us during one of our regular Talk and Tours to help decide if Simonds Catholic College is the right school for your son.
