About Preston Girls’ Secondary College

Established in 1928, Preston Girls’ Secondary College has a proud history of developing academic excellence and leadership qualities in young women. Our motto, Excellence, Trust and Compassion, expresses the values we believe in. We aim to develop young women of honesty and integrity, who demonstrate sensitivity to others.

The school creates and maintains a caring environment in which the experience of teaching and learning is enhanced for all students. We offer a number of programs that assist students in building self esteem and confidence. Preston Girls’ Secondary College is a small, safe and caring environment where girls both thrive and are able to reach their full potential.

Academic Achievement

Preston Girls’ Secondary College provides a rich and varied curriculum. The learning program for the college is structured into a four period day. The periods are 72 minutes in duration.
Students in years 7-8 follow a structured curriculum designed around the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Students in years 9-10 follow a program of common core studies (VELS structured) plus elective learning units each semester. Core studies are taught in Home Groups and run for the complete year. Learning Units are one semester in duration, multi-age and multi-level.
The College provides a broad range of VCE subjects, in addition to a VCAL program. The Pathways Co-ordinator works with students to develop their individual learning plans and future directions. The College is a member of the Inner Melbourne VET Cluster. Students from years 10 to 12 are able to undertake VET (Vocational Educational Training) studies and School Based Apprenticeships. The College provides opportunity for Year 10 students to study one VCE subject during year 10.
We are committed to the realisation of each girls' potential as part of her preparation for pathways beyond school. Our College provides a broad range of learning programs and co-curricular activities for girls which ensures that individual learning needs and interests are addressed.
