Our School

Ku-ring-gai High School is set on 25 acres bordering Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

We are a comprehensive, co-educational school that also offers specialist programs in the creative arts. The school is committed to academic excellence and high achievement and prides itself on providing comprehensive academic and creative opportunities to extend our students.

We offer students a well balanced curriculum with a wide range of academic, creative, sporting, performing and co-curricular experiences including leadership opportunities. There are extension programs and support to allow students to reach their potential.

Curriculum and Academic Profile

At Ku-ring-gai High School, creative learning is embraced across all Key Learning Areas. The school provides a comprehensive academic curriculum in Years 7-10. All students undertake study in core curriculum areas and in addition, all students in Year 7-10 elect a subject within our unique NOVA Creative Arts Course .

The Year 11 & 12 curriculum at Ku-ring-gai High School prepares students for the Higher School Certificate in a balanced way allowing for a wide combination of choices and levels of study. Ku-ring-gai High School encourages all students to achieve their personal best. Our experienced and dedicated teaching staff provides an environment that allows strong emphasis on academic excellence, and personal best.

Co Curricular Activities

There is a variety of experiences available in Creative and Performing Arts, Sport, Outdoor Education, Leadership and Community work at Ku-ring-gai High School.

All students at Ku-ring-gai High School are encouraged to take part in school ensembles. Membership of these groups helps students to become involved in school life more easily. Students find it a great way to make friends, have fun at school while also developing their skills. Ensembles may include: Senior and Junior Bands, Choir, Vocal Group, String Group, Rock Bands, Percussion and Flute Ensemble. Dance and Drama Ensembles are also offered to Senior and Junior students. Ku-ring-gai High School musicals and Drama productions are open to all students.

A variety of Sports are offered at Ku-ring-gai High School and students are also encouraged to participate in Duke of Edinburgh and other community programs and activities.

Special Programs

NOVA

Nova is an elective program offered to Year 7–10 students each year at Ku-ring-gai High School. The courses are designed to cater for creativity within all the key learning areas. In many cases the courses also provide opportunity for gifted and talented students to excel. This is particularly the case within the four Creative Arts areas – Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts.

Gifted and Talented Programs:

Ku-ring-gai High School offers an academic enrichment class in both Years 7 and 8 and also runs a differentiated curriculum model across all years to support and challenge the learning needs of our gifted and talented students. In addition, students are identified for recommendation in extension and enrichment programs across the school. Staff support students in their curricula and extra-curricula activities within and beyond the school environment. Ku-ring-gai High School currently offers acceleration programs for students identified by teachers as gifted in a particular area. Ku-ring-gai High School has a strong and ongoing commitment to providing teaching and learning programs that address the needs of gifted and talented students (GATS). As a large comprehensive school we have students who possess a range of gifts and display a range of talents in many different subjects.

Facilities

Facilities at Ku-ring-gai High School:
Olympic standard Hockey field, Tennis and Netball courts, Soccer and Rugby field as well as indoor facilities offer all students great facilities for sport.

Within Ku-ring-gai High School all students have access to five new fully equipped Science Laboratories, industry standard fully equipped kitchens. A connected classroom and interactive whiteboards are available in all faculties.
