About Us

Barker students continue to demonstrate that cooperation is more effective than competition in high performing schools, with the 2016 Year 12 cohort achieving outstanding HSC results. For the 7th consecutive year, a Barker student attained the maximum possible ATAR. In addition, 45% of students achieved an ATAR of 90 or more and the School scored a record 553 Band 6’s by 190 different students, including 70 Band 6’s in Advanced English.

Barker is focused on the future. We want all our students to come together to make the world a fairer place and this commitment to justice and equity begins at school. Our students are at the heart of our work.

At Barker we aim to provide a framework for young people to experience the best that the future offers – more than that, to become people who shape this future rather than merely people who consume it.

Our Mission

Barker is an Anglican community inspiring every learner, every experience, every day.

Seniors Coeducational Boarding

Boarding at Barker College is a unique experience for senior students only. Students commence boarding at Barker in Year 10.

The Barker experience attracts boarders from the suburbs of Sydney through to country regions of NSW and beyond. The coeducational and small boarder numbers support the development of peer relationships and social skills, whilst also allowing strong academic and personal mentoring opportunities.

Families can now consider keeping their children closer to home until the end of Year 9 and then elect to enter boarding from the start of Year 10.

Scholarships

Each year Barker College offers a number of Scholarships for Boarding, Academic and Music. The Scholarship Exam is held at the School and further information including an application, can be found at www.barker.college

Facilities

Barker has been located on its current 50 acre site since 1895 and successive generations of leaders and families have contributed to the beautiful campus we see today. Construction began on our new Prep School in the middle of 2017. This exciting development will bring the youngest members of the Barker community within the fold of the Junior School. Flexible and engaging spaces will provide the Prep students with every opportunity to begin their Barker journey in the best possible learning environment. A state of the art, purpose designed and built Sports Complex will provide five court spaces, gym and exercise spaces, rooms for dance, general purpose teaching areas, a café, viewing platform and parking for over 150 cars, when completed by 2020.

Barker’s academic program is a whole-school Pre-K to Year12 approach to learning. We have a curriculum that is rigorous and which values inquiry, thinking and understanding. The teaching staff at Barker is committed to a whole-school approach to curriculum development and delivery, unified by a shared sense of purpose as expressed in our Mission and Vision.
