What makes us unique?

Located in two high-rise buildings in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, St Andrew’s Cathedral School (SACS) is an innovative, globally focussed coeducational learning community for students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. The school’s urban location presents vast opportunities for students to engage beyond the classroom, with city museums, theatres, legal centres, green spaces government institutions and industry. SACS offers a strong academic program and extensive opportunities to be involved in sport, music, drama and outdoor education. As an authentically Christian school, Christian values are embedded in all aspects of daily life, with honesty, integrity, humility, respect and service being foundational to the richness of relationships at SACS. The school’s nurturing learning environment and pastoral care focus ensures every student is known, valued and empowered. Our comprehensive student wellbeing program addresses many of the challenges faced by children and adolescents today.

Sydney CBD location

Junior and Middle School facilities in St Andrew’s House offer immediate undercover access from Town Hall Train Station. The school is easily accessible throughout the Sydney metropolitan area using public transport. Many parents travel in with their children on their way to and from work. The school also offers a buddy program for younger Junior School students, pairing them with an older student who looks after them as they travel to school.

The university-style Senior College campus (for Year 10-12 students) is separately located within the high-rise Bishop Barry Centre, a two-minute walk from St Andrew's House.

Campuses

St Andrew's has three main campuses, plus a campus within a campus. There is the Junior School (Kindergarten to Year 6), which has a busy and productive working environment, facilitated by smaller class sizes, a unique rooftop playground, open-plan interactive areas and glass walled classrooms.

Then there is Gawura, a campus within the school that caters for up to 30 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across Kindergarten to Year 6. Literacy and numeracy are a core education focus within a context that maintains the cultural significance of students’ Indigenous backgrounds.

Then there is the Middle School campus for Years 7 to 9 students, where students are nurtured to grow in their independent learning and life skills. A large number of co-curricular opportunities are offered from Year 7.

Then there is the Senior College for Years 10 to 12, which provides a collegiate style campus tailored specifically to the learning needs for students in Years 10 to 12. Students can choose to study the Higher School Certificate (HSC) or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in Years 11 and 12.

Christian Values and Pastoral Care

St Andrew's has a strong and supportive school community based on understanding, compassion and mutual respect between students and staff. Students are encouraged to grow their hearts, minds and lives, embracing the future with a global outlook and being well prepared to achieve personal bests in all fields of endeavour. Students also investigate the Christian worldview and what it has to say about our journey as participants in a 21st century world.

The school Houses constitute a major structural and pastoral role within the school, with each student a member of one of eight houses. Not only are Houses used in competitions such as sport and debating, but as an opportunity for individual pastoral care, via small, House-based tutor groups that all students meet with on a weekly basis. This fosters greater student connection and the delivery of effective student wellbeing programs that build a culture of care between students as they assist one another both in and out of the classroom.

All students grow in their understanding of the value of leading and serving others and gain first-hand experience in helping those less fortunate than themselves through our service learning program. Our academic program ensures students are learning at a level that matches their capabilities – whether they are gifted or needing extra support.

Music and Performing Arts

St Andrew's has an exceptional reputation in drama, art and music, with over 40 music ensembles, aimed at a range of skill levels, integrated with outstanding performance opportunities that include Cathedral events, musicals, interstate and international tours. Drama facilities include an in-house Black Box theatre and open theatre-style classrooms. There are a variety of annual productions for Middle School and Senior College, as well as International Baccalaureate productions and interschool Theatresports competitions.

Sport and Outdoor Education

Many of the school’s home sporting facilities are located at Sydney University, (including St Andrew’s Oval) and the nearby Wentworth Park. On-site facilities include a fully equipped strength and conditioning gym, basketball courts and cricket nets and a large rooftop playground. A large variety of sports are offered.

St Andrew's has one of the country's most comprehensive outdoor education programs which contrasts with the school's city learning environment. Age appropriate programs commence in Kindergarten and make use of the school's 90-hectare Kirrikee site in the Southern Highlands, as well as more specific Senior College expeditions – the 21-day Kosciusko to Bass Strait hike, mountain biking in New Zealand, canoeing on the Murray, cross-country skiing and community service projects in central Australia.
