Excellence in Education

Opened in March 1892, Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, including the co-educational Ipswich Junior Grammar School, is one of eight original Queensland Grammar Schools.

The School offers smaller class sizes, the highest standards in quality education and pastoral care, a warm, nurturing boarding environment and a rich, diverse co-curricular program.

Students at all levels benefit from more student-teacher interaction and achieve academic excellence and all-round success.

Every year almost 100 percent of IGGS students are accepted into Queensland and interstate universities and other tertiary institutions of their choice.

Ipswich Junior Grammar School

Ipswich Junior Grammar School is the coeducational primary school campus of Ipswich Girls' Grammar School, situated in the same beautifully landscaped grounds with access to the same excellent facilities.

Recognising the many benefits of a coeducational experience in the formative years, our School includes young boys up to Year 4.

The staff, curriculum and resources are all focused on helping students take the first steps towards achieving individual potential and preparing for the challenges of higher level education.

Ipswich Girls' Grammar School

Our School has played a significant role in the education of thousands of inspirational women who have pursued careers in health, law, engineering, information technology, politics and other challenging life paths.

We’re very proud of our curriculum at IGGS. It’s a powerful balance of traditional subjects in sync with contemporary learning practices and studies like technological literacy and life skills.

The Learning Enrichment Department caters for students of all year levels who require learning support, or have the potential to develop gifted and talented behaviours.

The opportunity to participate in a rich and extensive co-curricular program encourages the students beyond the classroom environment.

Numerous indoor and outdoor sports are offered, for both recreation and competition.

Opportunities abound for developing talent in the visual and performing arts under the guidance of specialist teachers.

Intellectual pursuits such as chess, Opti-Minds, maths and science competitions, poetry, debating and public speaking are encouraged.

Outstanding Facilities

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School form one campus situated in extensive, landscaped grounds. Stately original school buildings are complemented by modern classrooms and facilities including:
• The Visual & Performing Arts Centre
• Computer labs
• Art studio
• Heated swimming pool
• Gymnasium
• Netball, volleyball & tennis courts

Pastoral Care

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School provides a caring community in which individuals feel valued and a sense of belonging to their School. Our Counselling and Careers Department is staffed by qualified, registered psychologists who understand the cognitive, emotional and behavioural patterns of children and young women.

Boarding

Our School also provides a wonderful boarding environment for girls in Years 7 to 12. It’s friendly and secure, a place where every girl can feel at home and feel like she belongs. Our study and recreation programs are designed to help girls make the most of opportunities to excel and to maintain a balanced lifestyle, especially when our School is also their home. Qualified, caring teachers and counsellors, nutritionist, registered nurses, and experienced boarding supervisors are involved in the care of our boarders.
