About our School

Peter Moyes Anglican Community School aims to provide for its students an academic, cultural and religious environment that offers a wide and engaging range of opportunities, both in and out of the classroom.

The school is set in the coastal area of northern Perth and students enjoy panoramic vistas of the nearby Indian Ocean.

The magnificent campus reflects the focus that our dedicated staff place on excellence in education. Students are encouraged to develop high levels of literacy, numeracy and self-confidence. The School carefully monitors students’ academic and social progress, and offers an extensive Co-Curricular programme.

We are able to maintain low fees, while providing an outstanding education.

Our History

The school opened in February 2000 and is named after Mr Peter Moyes, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Anglican Schools’ Commission, after retiring as Headmaster of Christ Church Grammar School, a position he held with distinction for 31 years. Mr Moyes’ influence, vision and outstanding ability resulted in him being recognised as a leading educator of his time, and the School that carried his name is proud to continue the tradition of quality and innovation.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is an important element supporting the holistic education provided at Peter Moyes Anglican Community School. It is concerned with the overall well being of each child, helping to ensure they feel safe, secure and valued.

The Heads of Sub Schools, Heads of House, Heads of Year (7 to 9), teachers within teams and the chaplain work together to ensure the welfare and educational needs of students are met.

Primary School

The Primary School curriculum has a strong focus on Literacy, Numeracy and Information and Communication Technology skills.

Our aim is for every classroom to be a technology-rich learning environment, providing our students with strong Information Literacy skills. Each classroom in the Primary School is equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard and data projector. Students have ready access to notebook computers.

The Primary School teachers aim to provide academic learning programmes that cater for different learning styles.

We employ specialist teachers for Music, Indonesian, Visual Arts and Physical Education, with students moving to the appropriate specialist facilities for these lessons. The specialist teachers, in conjunction with classroom teachers, also provide a range of activities such as concerts, cultural days, exhibitions and inter-school competitions.

The Middle School

The Middle School curriculum has been developed to meet the specific needs of the early adolescent learner in an approach that engages students and enhances their enthusiasm for learning. It has been designed to provide a smooth and effective progression of learning experiences by building on the foundations established in Primary School and systematically extending students in preparation for the requirements of Senior School.

Across each Learning Area, teachers deliver programmes that provide a variety of learning experiences to ensure a diverse and comprehensive experience for our students that includes opportunities to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in a broad range of topics.

Senior School

In Year 10, the core subjects (English, Mathematics, Society & Environment, Science) are studied for five periods per week each. Three other compulsory subjects are also taken – Beliefs & Values, Health Education and Physical Education – totalling another five periods between them.

Finally, students select four options (from a suite of 17 subjects on offer, encompassing Advanced Sport to Engineering to Woodwork to Performing Arts and Visual Arts and more).

Subject selection for Year 11 and Year 12 has many facets to it.

A suite of more than 44 different courses is open to students in both Year 11 and again in Year 12 (at different stages and levels).

In 2012 a $5.4m fully air-conditioned Senior School building with 14 classrooms, lecture theatre and school and staff oratory is scheduled to open.

The new Senior School building will continue to allow us to nurture independent and confident students in a dynamic environment; one in which students feel encouraged to strive for personal excellence, with compassion for others.
