Welcome

Lowther Hall has more than 100 years of experience in educating girls. We are a diverse, open-entry school of 900 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Our intimate environment on a single campus in the heart of Essendon positions us to know our students and cater for them from their very first day.

We provide a supportive and empowering environment that encourages girls to become the best version of themselves.

Our Anglican foundation underpins our school’s open and welcoming embrace of students from all faith backgrounds and positions.

At Lowther Hall we are dedicated to helping every girl achieve her full potential.

Well-being

Student wellbeing is a whole-school approach that underpins everything we do. It is woven into daily routines, classroom culture, cocurricular opportunities and relationships.

We believe that wellbeing is best nurtured when students feel known, supported, and empowered to grow in all aspects of their lives.

Personalised Learning Journey

From the youngest learners in Blinkbonnie House through to our girls in their final year of school, the emphasis at Lowther Hall is on providing personalised learning that enables every student to flourish and achieve her best.

Blinkbonnie House (K-1):
Across Kindergarten to Year 1 in Blinkbonnie House, our capacity to give all girls both individual and small group attention contributes significantly to their progress.
This nurturing environment fosters confidence, curiosity, and a strong foundation for future learning, ensuring that each girl is supported as she develops the skills and independence needed for her educational journey ahead.

Raymond House (2-6):
Junior School’s Raymond House provides a vibrant and nurturing environment where students build strong academic foundations while developing essential life skills.
Our comprehensive curriculum fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity across core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities. With a focus on holistic development, we encourage students to embrace challenges, collaborate with peers, and discover their unique strengths.

Sampford House (7-9):
Sampford House is the dedicated home for Years 7–9 students, providing a supportive environment with learning programs designed specifically for this stage of their education.
Spacious classrooms, collaborative learning areas and specialist facilities provide the opportunity for the delivery of tailored programs to help students develop independence, critical thinking, and the skills needed for their transition to Senior School.

Grant House (10-12):
Grant House supports students in Years 10–12 as they prepare for life beyond school. With a focus on academic excellence, it also fosters independence, leadership, and critical thinking skills, equipping students with the confidence and capabilities needed for future study, careers, and active participation in the wider world.

Cocurricular Pursuits

Our students are provided with an extensive and diverse range of cocurricular opportunities, offering over 50 programs across academics, the arts, and sports.

Students can engage in academic activities like debating and journalism, explore their creative talents through dance, drama, and music ensembles, or participate in a variety of sports, from team competitions to triathlon, fencing, and snowsports.

With opportunities for private tuition in speech, drama, and music, alongside a wide range of clubs and competitive programs, there is something for every student to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and pursue their passions.

Scholarships

Academic, Piano, Music and Vocal scholarships are offered at Lowther Hall.
The Academic examinations (for entry into Year 5 and Year 7) and auditions for Piano, Music and Vocal scholarships are normally held in February each year.
