The Hamilton and Alexandra College
Our School
The Hamilton and Alexandra College is a Co-educational Day and Boarding school located in Hamilton, in the south west of Victoria. The College has two campuses within Hamilton. The Chaucer Street Campus encompasses the Senior School. A separate 14 hectare property, "Myrniong", contains the Boarding Houses, Junior School, Early Learning Centre and Equestrian Centre and is situated just one and a half kilometres from the Senior School.
Excellence in Education
Established in 1871, the College has a long history of academic excellence and a tradition of high achievement. With emphasis on small class sizes, the College provides a nurturing yet challenging environment for students from Early Learning level through to Year 12.
Our Curriculum
The College is large enough to provide a wide and varied range of subjects yet small enough to provide students with individual attention in a beautiful environment. A broad curriculum is spread across core subjects and a variety of electives, offering extensive choices to students striving to maximise their strengths and expand their interests. Emphasis on the progress of the individual is a feature of the school's academic programme. The curriculum is both traditional and academic, complemented by exciting VET opportunities and extra curricular subjects and activities. The College is a RTO (Registered Training Organisation) for Certificate II in Hospitality, Equine Industry and Information Technology.
Years 4-8
Students in Years 4-8 are involved in a Middle Years Program, which incorporates a challenging curriculum with specialist teachers, resources, facilities and learning initiatives. The aim of the program is to engage and challenge students with a sharing of resources across both campuses.
Year 9
The College is particularly proud of its 'Year 9 Experience'. Students in this year level spend a month in China studying at the College's twin campus, Gaoyou Middle school in the Jiangsu Province. The students also have the opportunity to tour through China, visiting Beijing, Shanghai and Xi’an. Year 9 students also experience a week at the City Campus in Melbourne and a week in the Otway Ranges, pursuing rigorous outdoor activities. These experiences enrich our students in their middle years and equip them with valuable learning tools essential for the challenges that lie ahead.
Boarding
The College has a fine reputation for providing a high quality boarding environment for students from Year 5 to 12. Boarding students from throughout Australia, Asia and the US enjoy purpose built facilities, featuring single or twin share bedrooms with inbuilt study facilities. It is a safe and friendly environment, which is conducive to achieving outstanding academic results and developing lifelong friendships.
