About Pacific Hills

Set on 22 acres in leafy Dural in NW Sydney, and established in 1979, Pacific Hills is recognised and respected as a leader in Christian Education. Enrolling boys and girls from Prep to Year 12, the culture of Pacific Hills encourages hard work, respect, service orientation and character development in a genuine Christian environment. Students are encouraged to develop their potential through the fostering and pursuit of personal and academic excellence. In providing a well balanced, values based education in a strong community environment the School helps students to develop interdependence, a sense of responsibility and purpose enabling them to be skilled and active participants in the community in which they serve.

Junior School - Prep to Year 4

With a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy and language development Junior School operates in a safe and caring environment. Junior School students enjoy specialist teachers in visual arts, music, PE and ESL. Prep is situated in separate, self-contained facilities and focuses on school readiness and associated skills.

Students in all classes and grade levels are exposed to differentiated learning experiences that are tailored to offer appropriate achievement and challenge. Languages are taught throughout Junior School commencing with the AUSLAN alphabet in Kindergarten and Mandarin in Year 1-4.

Middle School - Year 5 to Year 8

An intentionally structured environment where strong Pastoral Care guides students through the many changes associated with adolescence, Middle School provides a stimulating environment for academic opportunities to be maximised. Early exploration of Technology and Science is offered from Year 5. There is a strong emphasis on the consolidation of literacy and numeracy in preparation for the increasing rigours of Senior School studies. The Augustine Program offers support and extension to gifted and talented students.

Senior School - Year 9 to Year 12

A focussed, innovative environment assisting students to graduate with confidence for further study & careers. Specialist Maths and Science classes are available for gifted students. School Counsellors work with Pastoral Care Teachers in providing support for students pastorally. Careers guidance and a work placement program provide students with helpful transitions to life after school.

Senior School offers state of the art facilities that provide students with excellent educational opportunities. Features of the Senior School campus include the Science facilities, Technology Centre, Multi-purpose Centre, playing fields and Performing Arts Centre (anticipated opening date of PAC is June 2011).

Electives Yr 9-10: In addition to the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, PD/Health/PE and Biblical Studies, the following elective courses are offered — Commerce, Dance, Design and Technology, Drama, Engineering Studies, Food Technology, French, Information & Software Technology, Music, Physical Activity & Sports Studies and Visual Arts.

Electives Yrs 11-12: English (all courses and extensions), Mathematics (all courses and extensions), Ancient History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Design and Technology, Drama, Economics, Engineering Studies, Hospitality, Legal Studies, Modern History (& extension), Music (& extension), PD/Health/PE, Physics, Software Design and Technology, Visual Arts, Studies in Religion, VET courses through a variety of TAFE institutions, Open High School Languages .

Co-curricular

At Pacific Hills all students have the opportunity to discover new pursuits, to be part of a team and to make new friends. An extensive co-curricular program provides a variety of activities to suit a range of interests and ability. Co-curricular activities provide opportunities to learn life skills such as co-operation, resilience, negotiation techniques and managing responsibility. Opportunities are available in a wide range of activities in the performing arts, music, sports, camps, debating, mock trial competition, mission trips, compassion club and other special interest groups. Pacific Hills has a long tradition of acclaimed musical productions with a thriving music department which aims to foster a love of music in every student and develop the skills of talented young musicians.

The school has an outstanding record of sporting achievement and all students have the opportunity to participate in sports of their choice, with some students participating at state, national and international level.

There are further opportunities to participate in various mission trips, community service programs, bands, debating, mock trial, Duke of Edinburgh Award, personalised careers guidance and a work placement program.
