Shire Christian School
Shire Christian School is a Prep to Year 12, co-educational Christian school in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, well-known for providing excellent Christian education.
By investing in relationships, the school seeks to create a culture where every child is part of a community that feels like family. In this caring Christian environment, students learn, grow and flourish-in recent years, Shire Christian School has been ranked as one of the highest-performing schools in the region.
Students have the opportunity to understand a Christian perspective on a range of areas of learning and are given exciting opportunities to develop their skills and achieve academically.
From humble beginnings in 1977 with a vision to partner parents in the Christian education of their children, Shire Christian School has grown to become a renowned provider of outstanding Christian education, with more than 950 students. The school logo uses the words ‘A Firm Foundation’ to indicate that the Bible ‘thoroughly equips for every good work’. The Firm Foundation the school seeks to establish for each child also involves helping them to develop core knowledge and skills that will be a foundation for future learning. Students learn, achieve and thrive when they feel emotionally safe and supported at school. Shire Christian School is known for how well it cares for its students and the School’s pastoral care program helps every child learn to the best of their ability and feel loved and valued. Shire Christian School offers extension opportunities and learning support programs for students with particular needs and invests greatly in the training and development of its teachers.
Our school is committed to providing students with engaging, high quality learning experiences that will equip them to take the opportunities and meet the challenges God presents to them throughout their lives. The school is passionate about students performing to the best of their ability from Prep to Year 12. The school wants all students to maximise their HSC results so they will have a range of post school options to choose from.
It is generally true in life that a person’s wellbeing affects everything they do. It is no different in schools. A child’s wellbeing affects their learning as well as their friendships.
It is our goal to build every student’s wellbeing so that they are able to benefit most from their years at school and develop into responsible and caring citizens.
Students are allocated to a gender-based Pastoral Care class in Year 7 and for the most part stay with this group of students and their Pastoral Care teacher for their journey through Secondary School. This means students are known well and supported by one teacher.
Students meet with their pastoral care class and teacher on a daily basis. The pastoral care program provides students with an opportunity to develop an understanding of how the gospel applies to their daily lives, helping them to understand what it means to live well in God’s world. The pastoral care program seeks to grow a student’s sense of connectedness, to develop their character and to provide them with support as they journey through their secondary school years.
Shire Christian School endeavours to provide opportunities for students to flourish outside the classroom. For example, the school offers a leading STEM and robotics program that has achieved outstanding results at state, national and international levels. Beginning in the Junior School with devices and age-appropriate coding, students progress to LEGO SPIKE robotics and compete in RoboCup Junior challenges across Rescue, Maze, OnStage and more. In recent years, Shire Christian has won first place in the NSW SPIKE Prime LEGO robotics competitions for consecutive years and at the 25th RoboCup National Tournament the Year 8 OnStage team secured 2nd place internationally and 1st place in Australia. Under the leadership of Enrichment Coordinator Mrs Leonie Hampson, the program has flourished – her mentorship is widely recognised, and she was recently awarded National Robotics Teacher of the Year. Through the program Shire Christian students consistently demonstrate excellence in design, coding, collaboration and creative problem-solving.
