Newcastle Waldorf School

Welcome to our School

The Newcastle Waldorf School values a culture that allows children to fulfil their physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual potential in a way that will enhance them individually and as members of the community and society in which they choose to live as adults.

Steiner education seeks to enliven the physical, social, artistic, conceptual, and spiritual capacities of our young people. Our school engages with contemporary insights emerging from Rudolf Steiner’s indications about the unfolding human individuality in accordance with what is beautiful, good and true.

The features of the School which aid in this pursuit are its beautiful grounds and buildings, which have been conceived, designed and in many cases actualised by the efforts of teachers, parents and former students of the School.

And the School's curriculum allows students to achieve a well-balanced and cultural education. For all students, this includes experience in the fields of music, visual and dramatic arts, handwork, design, gardening and cooking, as well as rigorous academic exercise. This wide curriculum allows for a range of future career choices.

The Newcastle Waldorf School strives to be true to the human condition and archetypes represented in the natural world, whilst consciously marrying this with the demands of our modern society.

Our College of Teachers

The care and education of the children of the Newcastle Waldorf School is the responsibility of the College of Teachers. The College has the responsibility of ensuring that the curriculum of the school, while fulfilling the requirements of the NSW Board of Studies, offers high cultural and moral examples of human endeavour.

The teachers also ensure that our young children have space and time for creative play which will build a wonderful storehouse of inspiration. This balance in the curriculum creates an atmosphere of oneness or connectedness with all spheres of life – spiritual, cultural, emotional and practical.

Class Structure and Progression through the Years

When a child is ready to move on from Kindergarten they begin their primary journey with their Class Teacher. This dedicated person guides them through their main lessons through the next 7 years of their education.

As they approach high school the influences widen to include a little more time with other teachers in the subjects of Music, Art and Woodwork. In high school itself they will have a broad range of specialist teachers while still being guided by their Class Guardian. This gradual widening of influences is, ideally, providing the child with a gentle awakening into adulthood and society.

Years 11 & 12 or HSC

The College of Teachers is very happy to have set in motion our own NSW Board of Studies registered and accredited HSC pathway that fulfils our aim to bring a quality, balanced education to our senior students; engaging their hearts, minds and wills in purposeful activities. Our range of courses brings them opportunities to be inspired by cultural achievements and to follow their individual aspirations along with academic challenges balanced with creative and physical endeavours.

End of Year Camp Years 6-12

An opportunity for students to discover their individual resilience and strength, helping out others and generally working together as a community.
