Southern Highlands Christian School

Welcome to Southern Highlands Christian School

Why Christian schooling?" because it reinforces the value and faith formation happening in their homes, and at SHCS, we pray to continue the tradition of pioneering families by nurturing, equipping, and guiding our community in their understanding of the Christian faith, making them real-world ready for life.

SHCS Prep

This journey begins in SHCS Prep where each student is an active discoverer of their new world away from home through an innovative, colourful and explorative curriculum derived from the National Framework of Learning, implemented from a Christian perspective. Based on many years of experience in teaching in the early years, at SHCS, we value and prioritise the development of the whole child in Prep – academically, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The Early Years Learning Framework (ELYF) describes the principles, practice and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school, with a particular focus on the power of play.

At SHCS, we regard play as the best vehicle for our youngest students’ learning, providing the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. Not only does play develop concentration, creativity, empathy and a positive attitude towards schooling in general; it also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy); as well as social and emotional development.

It is built around the important themes of: Belonging, Being and Becoming.

Kindergarten - Year 12

At Southern Highlands Christian School, we ask: “How does the curriculum contribute to learning more about God, understanding who we are, what we should value and how we might live our lives?”

Within the areas of their expertise, our capable educators attempt to steadily and cumulatively start age-appropriate conversations to stimulate not only the intellectual learning process, but also the gradual exercise of practical skills. Creating a learning community from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Within the areas of their expertise, our capable educators at Southern Highlands Christian School attempt to steadily and cumulatively start age-appropriate conversations to stimulate not only the intellectual learning process but also the gradual exercise of practical skills—creating a learning community from Prep to Year 12 rooted in Christian Character, Learning, Excellence, Respect, and Community.

It is important to flesh out who our students are and who they are becoming upon completion of their academic journey at SHCS.

This is but a snapshot of how we, at SHCS, strive to encapsulate our Christian approach to education aimed at developing their minds, captivating their hearts, and equipping their hands, as they explore God’s world and everything in it.

The result: young adults well-equipped for a lifetime of learning through academic excellence, and a lifetime of faithful servanthood as they are encouraged to develop a robust, biblical, and relevant faith in God.
