People often ask, Why Christian schooling?
And they should, it is an important question.
It is a question about raising a new generation.
This journey begins in SHCS Prep where each boy and girl is an active discoverer of their new world away from home through an innovative, colourful and adventurous curriculum derived from the National Framework of Learning, implemented from a Christian perspective. Based upon many years of experience in teaching in the early years, at SHCS, we value and prioritise the development of the whole child in Prep – academically, socially, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The Early Years Learning Framework (ELYF) describes the principles, practice and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school, with a particular focus on the power of play.
At SHCS, we regard play as the best vehicle for our youngest students’ learning providing the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. Not only does play develop concentration, creativity, empathy and positive attitudes towards schooling in general; it also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy); as well as social and emotional development.
It is built around the important themes of: Belonging, Being and Becoming.
At Southern Highlands Christian School, we ask: “How does the curriculum contribute to learning more about God, understanding who we are, what we should value and how we might live our lives?”
Within the areas of their expertise, our capable educators attempt to steadily and cumulatively start age-appropriate conversations to stimulate not only the intellectual learning process, but also the gradual exercise of practical skills. Creating a learning community from Kindergarten to Year 12.
The result: young adults well equipped for a lifetime of learning through academic excellence, and a lifetime of faithful servanthood as they are encouraged to develop a robust, biblical and relevant faith in God.
