St Joseph's College (Gregory Terrace)

Our College

The vision of St Joseph's College is to provide a Catholic education that pursues excellence in holistic learning. The College was established by the Christian Brothers in 1875. There are four campuses – the main campus at Gregory Terrace, Waterford Place (Year 10s), 10ha of sporting facilities at Tennyson and Outdoor Education Centre at Lake Maroon.

Recent additions to St Joseph's College include the state-of-the-art Br Tony White Building, incorporating the Year 7 Learning Centre, and the renovated, heritage-listed Treacy Centre, which includes one-on-one music rooms. St Joseph's College also has recently finished a multi-million dollar upgrade of its sporting facilities at Tennyson with work now underway on the second stage, including a grandstand.

Academic Achievement

Academic outcomes for students are a focus in providing a balanced education. St Joseph's College has a distinguished academic history that has produced 17 Rhodes Scholars. A record 38 students received an OP1 in 2013. The Senior cohort received a median OP score of 6 with all eligible students receiving a QTAC offer. The exceptional academic results reflect the dedication of the staff and the commitment from the boys, coupled with mentoring and pastoral care.

Co-curricular activities are a key aspect of the holistic education provided at Gregory Terrace. St Joseph's College is consistently among Queensland’s leading schools in areas as diverse as debating, cross-country and rowing. The College has a proud sporting tradition and offers a wide range of sporting pursuits, including rugby, football, gymnastics, cricket, rowing, swimming, athletics, volleyball and basketball. St Joseph's College has a strong music program. Boys from Years 5 to 7 are provided with musical instruments and lessons while older students are encouraged to learn a musical instrument or continue with tuition. There are a large number of bands, ensembles, orchestras and choirs.

Pastoral care

A key facet of the caring environment at St Joseph's College is its House system. On arriving at Terrace, students are placed in one of nine Houses under the direction of a House Dean. The Houses, which cater for students from Years 5-12, are divided into Tutor Groups, each led by a staff tutor, with the Year 12 students cast as role models. The interaction across the year levels builds on the relationships developed between the younger and older students that are established from their first day at Terrace.
