German International School Sydney is a co-educational day school offering high quality bi-lingual education from Preschool up to Year 12. A playgroup for under 3 year olds runs weekly.
Here at German International School Sydney we are dedicated to developing each individual student’s full potential and committed to the best of European and Australian educational and cultural values mediated in a caring community. Small classes and peaceful bush land settings allow for close attention to our students’ individual needs and provide a relaxed and stimulating learning environment.
German International School Sydney is registered with the Board of Studies and accredited by the German education authorities. In November 2009 we were awarded “Excellent German School Abroad”.
In 2008 we moved to newly built facilies within the peaceful bushland settings of Terrey Hills. Bus transport is available.
The School (except the English Stream) follows the calendar of the Northern Hemisphere starting end of July until End of June.
When enrolling in the Preschool, Primary School (up until Year 3), the English Stream starting in Year 7 or in Year 11 for the International Baccalaureate at German International School Sydney, German language knowledge skill are not a prerequisite.
German International School Sydney caters for children from 3 to 5 years of age. Children can attend 5 days per week or alternatively have the option of attending 2 or 3 consecutive days. Naturally, the progression towards becoming bilingual usually occurs when children have frequent exposure to languages. For this reason we recommend that children attend for 5 days.
German International School Sydney provides a creative curriculum embedded in the NSW Curriculum Framework. Within this they have possibilities to explore the real world driven by their interests and needs. We view children as protagonists and encourage them to construct the curriculum together with parents and teachers.
All of the Preschool teachers at German International School Sydney are bilingual, highly qualified and experienced working for Preschools in both Australia and overseas.
Starting from Year 7 German International School Sydney offers English Stream classes parallel to our German Stream. In the English Stream core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Humanities and Sciences are offered in English and according to the NSW curriculum.
Key learning areas in the English Stream will be taught in English and according to the NSW curriculum. English, French, Art, Music, Ethic and Physical Education are taught in a combined class with the German Stream. An exceptional language concept and a unique exchange programme at German International School Sydney will ensure that students learn languages beyond the classroom.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is widely recognised by Australian and overseas universities as the entry qualification of choice. The IB Diploma Programme, for Years 11 and 12, is offered at German International School Sydney in English, or bilingual with selected subjects in German and English.
The overseas students attending German International School Sydney live with friendly host families.
