Hurlstone Agricultural High School

Welcome

At Hurlstone Agricultural High School, agriculture is a cornerstone of education, reflecting the school's unique identity as a selective agricultural school.

Students from Years 7 to 12 engage in a dynamic, hands-on agricultural program that integrates classroom learning with practical experience on the school's working farm.

From animal husbandry and crop production to agribusiness and sustainability practices, students develop a deep understanding of modern agriculture and its role in feeding and sustaining communities. These experiences are designed to foster responsibility, teamwork, and an appreciation of the natural environment.

Our Senior Years

Hurlstone’s agricultural program is more than a subject—it’s a vital part of the school's culture and a key contributor to shaping future leaders in the agricultural sector.

In senior years, students have the opportunity to study Agriculture as a HSC subject, where they explore advanced concepts in agricultural science, economics, and technology. The program is supported by specialist staff, purpose-built facilities, and strong connections with industry and tertiary institutions.

Through participation in competitions, excursions, and farm-based activities, students gain valuable skills that prepare them for future study and careers in agricultural and related sciences.

A High Potential & Gifted Education

At Hurlstone Agricultural High School, the implementation of the NSW Department of Education's High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) policy is central to our commitment to nurturing the talents and aspirations of every student.

As a selective school, we recognise the diverse learning needs of high-potential students and are deliberate in creating challenging, engaging, and differentiated learning environments.

Our Co-Curricular Programs

Hurlstone offers a number of programs that enhance and compliment our classroom learning experiences in a broad range of activities.  These programs play an important role in the holistic development of our students while fostering self discipline, responsibility, leadership and team work.

Our extensive instrumental and orchestral program caters to all students of all levels of musical experience.

Our Boarding Community

Our boarding school caters to high performing and gifted students from rural and remote areas and is an outstanding facility for students to expand and enhance their educational opportunities. It is home for students as they learn vital living skills.
Facilities include spacious rooms, common rooms, access to sporting fields and onsite gym and a large dining and kitchen complex. And our Wellbeing Centre offers health support for our students, with a registered nurse available from 7:30am to 11pm each day, with the capability of 24 hour support when needed.

Our Environment Committee

For the past 11 years, Hurlstone’s Environment Committee has been actively reducing the school environmental impact and raising awareness. We are passionate about environmental issues such as climate change and have taken part in Climate Justice Summits, meeting with our local MP to talk about solar, rallies for solar on schools and Repower campaigns with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC).
