St Luke's Grammar School

Welcome to St Luke's Grammar School

St Luke's Grammar School is an independent Anglican, co-educational school, with two campuses on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. One campus is located in Dee Why (Pre-K to Year 12) and a second campus is located in Bayview (Pre-K to Year 6). The School provides a leading edge educational experience for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12.

Families choose St Luke's because they place value in their child attending a local and reputable mid-size School that seeks to provide small school individualised student focused learning, with larger school co-curricular opportunities, experiences and results.

The School's vision is equipping students to make a difference in the world.

It is the School's desire for its graduates to be people who are service-orientated and who can be an influence for good in their lives and chosen careers beyond the school gate.

School Aims

St Luke’s Grammar School aims to be a School that provides a
1. Solid Christian Foundation
2. Strong Focus on Learning Excellence
3. Steadfast Commitment to Student Welfare.

Solid Christian Foundation

The School's Motto is "Christ our Light".

As an Anglican School, students will experience an inclusive community which treats each person as important because they are made in the image of God. The School adopts an intellectual rigor to all subjects and also to the study of the Christian faith. Students are encouraged to bring an open and critical mind and to understand the rich heritage of Christianity. The Bible is the foundation and students are explicitly taught from it. The Christian life of the School, experienced in Chapel and in the community, seeks to be one of restoration, through grace, compassion, justice and humility.

Strong Focus on Learning Excellence

Learning excellence at St Luke’s is achieved through the School’s focus on learning.

With a mission to provide a high quality education within a learning community which values life-long learning, St Luke’s aims to develop students as independent, responsible learners.

Students set academic goals, and reflect upon their learning strategies and progress in order to achieve their goals.

Learning@STLUKE'S is a framework for teaching and learning which identifies learning as the core business of St Luke’s Grammar School.

The model uses Guy Claxton’s Building Learning Power framework which draws together research on how students learn and what capacities strengthen the capacity to learn. Within our framework we have identified 5 R’s associated with learning.

Powerful learners display capacities associated with 4 R’s - Resilience, Resourcefulness, Reflectiveness and Reciprocity (the capacity to learn with others). The 5th R in the Learning@STLUKE'S model is Restoration. While we seek to grow students as learners, more importantly we seek to grow students as human beings.

Announcements

Mission
The mission of St Luke’s Grammar School is to provide girls and boys with a high-quality education within a learning community based on Christian beliefs and practice, which will enable students to develop their individual abilities and contribute positively to the world in which they live. Students are encouraged to look outward and make a difference in the world.

Motto / Vision
Equipping students to make a difference in the world

The School aims to work in partnership with parents to prepare young women and young men who are educated, developed and inspired to go out into the world to impact positively upon the lives of others.

Resilience
Resilient learners are able to be absorbed in ther learning. They can manage distractions around them focusing instead on their learning. Resilient learners are able to notice subtle changes in their environment, identify patterns and details which inform their understanding and, perhaps most importantly, resilient learners demonstarte perseverance when faced with challenging learning tasks.

Resourcefulness
Resourceful learners are good at asking quastions which support their learning and the learning of others, they quickly make links between different ideas, can use reasoning to form an arguement and imagine new possibilities. Finally, resourceful learners are able to capitalise on the resources available to them inside and outside the classroom.

Reflectiveness
Reflective learners plan their approach to their learning, continually revise how they are learning, are able to identify the main points they need to learn (distilling) and have a good understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses as a learner (meta-learning).

Reciprocity
Students who are strong in reciprocity know both when they will learn best on their own and when they will learn best with others (interdependence). They are good collaborators with other students, have good listening skills and learn from others by watching them carefully and taking onboard new ways of thinking (imitating). here, in a nutshell, is what powerful learning looks like - and this is not only for classroom learning, but learning for life.

Religion
Christian Studies lessons and weekly Chapel Services are an integral part of the School program.
