The School has a proud academic history which has been built around strong and positive educational leadership, matched by excellence in teaching and pastoral care and supported by a wide range of co-curricular activities.

Our Mission
To provide excellence in all-round education within a unique environment by:
~ promoting best practice in pastoral, academic and co-curricular programmes;
~ creating a caring, stimulating, structured and Christian setting; and
~ encouraging students to develop their self esteem and achieve their potential.

Early Childhood

The approach to learning at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School’s Early Childhood Centre (Kindergarten – Y2) is driven by the child-centred philosophy of Reggio Emilia. The philosophy was founded by Loris Malaguzzi in Italy in the 1940s and continues to be focused around Malaguzzi’s fundamental belief that ‘each child is rich, strong, curious, powerful and full of wonder’.

At Bunbury Cathedral Grammar we have taken this philosophy and woven our wonderful Australian culture through it to create the very best in early childhood education.

We believe that children should be enabled to contribute to the learning process. They are not empty vessels ready to be filled with knowledge; rather unique individuals who not only have a lot to offer to their own journey of growth, but also the journey of their peers. Early childhood educators are given the responsibility of helping each individual child to open the door of possibilities and to ignite his or her passion for growth.

The current Kindergarten programme allows for four full school days per week.

Our Primary School is a tranquil and yet dynamic place that provides a safe, active and stimulating environment in which young minds are challenged and young spirits enriched. Our delightful grounds provide the backdrop for well-resourced classrooms, excellent sporting and music facilities, and play areas. Most importantly, the special skills of our talented and carefully selected staff ensure that the children who come here continue their educational journey with positive and supportive experiences.

One of the significant advantages of a primary education at the Grammar School is the access that our primary students have to specialist teaching staff and magnificent specialist facilities including the Lishman Library, our Design and Technology Centre, the School Gymnasium, and excellent Music, Drama and Art Centre. This sharing of facilities by primary and secondary students encourages what is a fundamental part of a Grammar School education – the development of positive, warm and open relationships between students of all ages.

Life within our Secondary School is about educating each of our students to take responsibility for their learning and to consider alternatives for their future. We are focused on our students finding and embracing their own identity. The education that we provide celebrates diversity and aims to open young minds rather than close them.

We have a very friendly and happy School where young men and women mix in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. We have developed an outstanding learning community, with peaceful and beautiful grounds, state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated staff. Grammar School teachers are leaders in their profession and specialists in their fields. They are committed to innovation in education, where pushing the boundaries and encouraging creativity are the hallmarks, where providing a curriculum for life is what really matters.

The boarding facilities at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School are located right in the heart of our School grounds. Each boarding house has self-contained, cottage-style accommodation and each cottage can house up to nine boarders of varying ages. Students have bedrooms rather than dormitories and the senior students take some responsibility for the care of the younger members of their unit. Shower, toilet and laundry facilities are shared and each unit has a kitchen and an eating area where students meet over breakfast, afternoon tea and supper (lunch and the evening meal each day are provided by our superb chefs). This unique way of housing students helps to foster strong bonds of friendship across age groups.

The co-educational nature of boarding means that girls and boys mix in a natural and healthy environment where friendships develop within clear and meaningful guidelines. For boarding families, the reality of having both their sons and daughters educated at the same School is a great advantage and many of the friendships that develop here are life long.

We offer an experience for our boarders that aims to help them to find enjoyment and to grow during their time away from home. Our central aim is to provide a ‘home away from home’ experience that provides each boarder with unlimited opportunities to develop lifelong friendships, lifelong learning strategies and a degree of independence and interdependence that will serve them well in life beyond the Grammar School. It is the friendly spirit of co-operation between students, staff, parents and boarding families that makes this a very special place.

An education at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is an investment in your child's future. We believe an Anglican, co-educational institution where boys and girls grow together, each learning respect and tolerance for the other, is the best legacy you can give your child. At Bunbury Grammar, there is a friendly spirit of cooperation between students, staff and parents which makes it a very special place.
